Sound Input Mode (MIC or AUX)

FAV-EQ has two sound input modes. In MIC mode, when the product is powered on, the built-in microphone automatically picks up surrounding sounds and operates the visualizer accordingly.

In AUX mode, the product receives an external audio source through the Audio In port on the back of the unit. This wired input mode allows for more accurate EQ control than the built-in microphone mode. (For AUX mode, please refer to the Pass-Through Function section below.)

Pass-Through Function

FAV-EQ does not have a built-in speaker. When using FAV-EQ in AUX mode, the pass-through function allows you to continue using your existing speakers and audio source device. Simply connect your audio source device to the Line In port, and connect active speakers or headphones to the Line Out port. (Only low-output devices such as smartphones, PCs, and laptops can be used. Active speakers with an AUX input are required.)

Alternatively, FAV-EQ can also be used with a Hi-Fi audio system by connecting it to a third-party multi-channel audio mixer equipped with a headphone monitoring output.

MIC Gain Control (MIC GAIN Knob)

Adjusting the MIC GAIN knob allows you to control the sensitivity of the built-in microphone. In quiet environments, you can increase the sensitivity to detect even very soft sounds, while in noisy environments, you can lower the sensitivity to reduce unwanted triggering.

Frequency Band Selection

FAV-EQ features seven slider knobs, each assigned to a different frequency band. By adjusting these sliders, you can make the ferrofluid respond to specific frequency ranges. For example, if you want the ferrofluid to move in response to the sound of a bass drum, simply adjust the low-frequency slider.

You can also select multiple frequency bands at the same time, allowing you to customize the visualization to your preference. (This feature is not an EQ for adjusting the audio itself.)

Each slider has an indicator LED below it for its corresponding frequency band. It shows the sound being detected in real time and indicates whether the band is active. (White: Monitoring / Green: Active)

Electromagnet Power Control (MAG PWR Knob)

The audio volume and the magnetic force of the electromagnet are proportional. This means you can control the intensity of the ferrofluid’s response by adjusting the volume of your audio source device.

However, the MAG PWR knob on the FAV-EQ allows you to compensate for an input volume that is too high or too low, adjusting the magnetic force to an appropriate level.

Also, when you adjust the MAG PWR knob, the frequency band indicator LEDs temporarily function as an electromagnet power gauge (green). After about 3 seconds, they return to their normal function as frequency band indicators.

Lighting Control (BRI, CCT)

You can adjust the color temperature and brightness of the lighting to better match your surroundings. There are two slide switches on the right side of the product for these controls.

CCT controls the color temperature and offers three settings: COOL – (Middle) – WARM.

BRI controls the brightness. MIN turns the light completely off, and the brightness can be adjusted in four levels up to MAX.

USB-C Port for Firmware Updates

Connect FAV-EQ to a PC via USB. It will automatically appear as a drive. Copy the FAV-EQ firmware file to the drive, then restart the product to complete the update automatically.

Status LED During Firmware Update

When updating the firmware via USB, the status LED at the bottom right indicates:

- Updating: Yellow, fast blinking

- Update Complete: Green, double blinking

- Update Error: Red, fast blinking

*When the LED starts double blinking green, safely eject the drive from your PC, then turn the FAV-EQ off and back on to complete the firmware update.

Overheat Protection

FAV-EQ automatically activates its overheat protection function to help extend the lifespan of the ferrofluid. If the electromagnet remains at maximum output for more than 5 seconds, all slider LEDs will begin flashing red.

At this point, the user should reduce the volume of the source device or adjust the MAG PWR knob or sliders to return the product to normal operation.

If the product does not return to normal operation and the red flashing continues for an additional 20 seconds, the electromagnet will be forcibly disabled for 20 minutes.

During this time, the slider LEDs will function as a cooling-time gauge. The red LEDs will gradually turn green from left to right. Once all LEDs have turned green, the cooling period is complete and the product will automatically return to normal operation.

Even if the product is forcibly turned off and back on during the cooling period, the remaining cooling time will continue from where it left off. Therefore, please keep the product powered on until the cooling period is complete.
